The government has announced plans to release up to GH¢4 billion to road contractors to enable the resumption of stalled infrastructure projects across the country.
The funds are expected to be disbursed in phases to support contractors who have been idle since the beginning of the year.
This move forms part of the government’s broader effort to fast-track development and improve road infrastructure nationwide.
Earlier this year, the government suspended all payments to road contractors to allow for a comprehensive audit of outstanding claims.
The audit exercise was initiated in January following the inauguration of the new administration to verify and validate the legitimacy of payment requests.
The suspension, though necessary for accountability, led to a halt in numerous ongoing road projects, sparking concerns among stakeholders and the general public.
Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, assured the public that the government is committed to completing all critical road projects.
He cited the Ofankor–Nsawam road as one of the top priorities.
“We will prioritise the Ofankor–Nsawam road and ensure that all contractors receive the necessary support to return to site,” the Minister stated.
He added that the government’s intervention will restore momentum to projects that are vital to economic growth and public safety.
Mr Agbodza further urged contractors to prepare to mobilise quickly once payments begin.
“We are counting on contractors to reciprocate the government’s gesture with diligence and speed,” he said.
