Indian High Commissioner to Ghana Shri Manish Gupta is encouraging the government to support policies aimed at improving e-learning initiatives in Ghana.
He says backing with the necessary resources will lead to the economic transformation of the country.
“Ensuring the necessary infrastructure, funding and regulation are in place,” he said.
He was speaking virtually at the 2024 E-Learning Week organised by the KNUST E-Learning Centre in Kumasi.
The programme is under the theme, “Fostering excellence in e-learning across diverse disciplines: Progress, challenges and prospects”.
The Ambassador of Israel to Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone, Shlomit Sufa was optimistic the two countries could partner to help develop Ghana’s e-learning landscape.
“I believe that through this collaboration we will find solutions to some of the e-learning challenges in e-learning in Ghana. By combining our strengths and learning from one another.
“As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of education, our partnerships continue to grow and adapt. The integration of Israel’s e-learning technologies into Ghana’s represents a shared vision to empower the next generation with the tools and knowledge they will need to thrive in the rapidly changing world for socio-economic development,” she said.
Scientific Cooperation Attaché at the French Embassy, Dr Diane Bramie elaborated on France’s role in enhancing Ghana’s online learning activities by partnering in many initiatives
She called for capacity building for teachers to drive online learning in Ghana.
"Teachers play a crucial role in the success of online learning initiatives. In France, continuing education is offered to teachers to help them integrate digital technology into their teaching methods," she said.
"The conference will feature a workshop for selected senior high schools and students and there will be Tek Smartest Quiz competition organized by the SRC for students.
There will also be a talk by Ghanaian vlogger Kwadwo Sheldon on “Mastering Online Branding.”
Teaching Assistants and Postgraduates will also have the opportunity to meet the Delegation from the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) to discuss the myriad opportunities that the ACU offers to students and service persons, empowering them to maximize their potential and contribute meaningfully to the global academic community and beyond.
Climaxing the week will be the 2024 E-learning International Conference.
“It is a celebration of our commitment to excellence in digital teaching and learning, digital education. And it is an opportunity also to showcase the incredible work that is being done by KNUST...
“It is a time to explore new ideas as we should. It is also a time to share best practices as the conference will bring together people from all walks of life and also a time to envision digital education globally,” Prof Eric Appau Asante, Director of KNUST E-learning Centre said.
The vice-chancellor Prof Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson stressed the university’s commitment towards making digital literacy the mainstay of the university.
“As a university, we remain committed and intentional in not leaving any student or staff behind,” she said.
