The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has promised to embark on two main infrastructural investments in the Central Region when re-elected into power.
During his address at the launch of the party's manifesto, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia disclosed that the NPP will construct an airport and a harbour in the Central Region.
"For the people of Cape Coast, I have good news for you. We are building a new harbour in Cape Coast and a new airport in Cape Coast," he said.
At the manifesto launch, Dr Bawumia noted that building an airport in Cape Coast was very critical in the support of what he described as one of the country's major tourist and economic hubs.
"An airport makes a lot of sense in Cape Coast. It's a real tourist hub and between Greater Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast you have a triangle that really is a hub for economic activities," he said.
He added that the economic hub called for the construction of a railway line to connect these major cities that would serve as a "great growth pole to drive infrastructural growth".
He further indicated that the next Akufo-Addo administration will continue the construction of the Eastern Railway line, which links Accra, Tema and Kumasi, and the Ghana-Burkina line, among other rail projects.
