Dr. Paul Acquah, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, on Thursday appeared before an Accra Fast Track High Court following the filing of a motion to commit him for contempt.In an ex-parte motion, Rockshell International Limited is demanding the payment of GH¢ 700,000 cedis due it in 1996 following the execution of work in respect of the Keta Sea Defence project.When the case was called, Dr Acquah, who was present in court, filed his affidavit in opposition.Lawyers who represented Rockshell told the court that they had just been served with an affidavit in opposition and therefore would need some time to study it.Dr. Acqauh sought permission of the court to be absent at the next sitting of the court but said he would be represented.The case was adjourned to January 26.On November 20, 2006, Rockshell obtained judgment against the Attorney General and Bank of Ghana at an Accra High Court for payment of the GH¢ 700,000.When the government failed to pay the money Rockshell commenced proceedings to attach the BOG.The High Court on January 9, this year, however, ordered the Bank of Ghana to release the GH¢ 700,000 into an account referred to as Contingency Operational Account 0121360058002 to Rockshell.Rockshell said despite numerous visits by its General Manager to the office of BoG the money due them had not been paid.Source: GNA
