President John Mahama has directed that funds be made available through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to support the completion of the Digital Youth Programme.
This was disclosed by Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, on Tuesday, January 6.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the University of Ghana's 77th Annual New Year School and Conference, Mr Iddrisu said the President has instructed that GETFund be formally engaged to secure funding for the programme, leading to the approval of a GH¢100 million allocation under the GETFund formula.
According to him, GETFund has since held its board meeting and approved the formula for the 2026 financial year, paving the way for the government to begin implementation within the projected timeline.
He indicated that the government is committed to ensuring that the programme is completed as scheduled, noting that the necessary processes have already been set in motion.
Beyond the funding arrangement, Haruna Iddrisu said President Mahama’s next major focus will be to lead the country through far-reaching administrative, legal, and constitutional reforms.
He explained that these reforms are aimed at strengthening state institutions and building a more resilient public sector capable of responding effectively to national development challenges.
He noted that the President’s reform agenda is consistent with long-standing calls for stronger public institutions, improved governance systems, and enhanced accountability across the public service.
According to him, the objective is to establish institutions that are independent and fit for purpose, in line with the aspirations of Ghanaians.
Mr Iddrisu stressed that the government remains committed to investing in youth-focused programmes while simultaneously pursuing reforms that will deepen democracy and improve public administration.
He assured that the administration will continue to work closely with relevant stakeholders to deliver on its promises and advance national development priorities.
