The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to coastal protection as Phase II of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project is set to commence.
Speaking during a visit to Agavedzi on Friday, June 13, where he was joined by the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Adjel, Mr Gunu assured residents of Blekusu, Salakope, Agavedzi, and Amutinu that the government is delivering on its promise to safeguard coastal communities.

Describing the visit as “more than symbolic,” Mr Gunu noted that it was a message of hope and a clear indication that the administration had not turned its back on the affected communities.

He emphasised that the project is not only about protecting lives and properties from the devastating effects of sea erosion but also about revitalising local economies.

“Promises made are promises being fulfilled, and we will see them through to the very end,” he said.
The contractor, Messrs Amandi Holding Limited, is expected to begin work on an 8-kilometre stretch of coastal defence infrastructure.

The project will also include the development of auxiliary facilities such as a fish market and a cold storage unit.
These additions are expected to boost the livelihoods of coastal dwellers significantly. Mr Gunu called on residents to support the project wholeheartedly, adding that the future looks bright for the region’s vulnerable coastal towns.
