The government is planning to merge the hydroelectric dams into a single entity to be called the Ghana Hydro Authority.
This is outlined in a bill currently before Parliament, which will be actualized if the bill is passed.
During an emergency Parliamentary sitting today, Deputy Minority Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim raised concerns over the matter during the bill's first reading.
According to the Banda MP, there are serious issues among traditional leaders in his constituency about how this merger will affect the Bui Power Authority (BPA).
The Hydro dams are not the only assets considered in this amalgamation.

The rest of the bills being pushed by the Energy Ministry include the Ghana Thermal Authority Bill, Ghana Hydro Authority Bill, Ghana Power Distribution Authority Bill, Ghana Nuclear Power Corporation Bill, and Ghana Energy Regulatory Authority Bill.
The Deputy Minority Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim also questioned the timing of the move with under 100 days to the general election.
Speaker Alban Bagbin, after consulting the clerks said there were no physical copies of the explanatory memoranda to the listed Bills.
On the back of this, he indicated that they would not be taken today.
