Government says it will re-launch the botched National Identification policy in the country.
This was revealed by the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Seth Terkper during the presentation of the 2016 Budget statement, Friday.
The identification policy which started in 2008 under the erstwhile New Patriotic Party with a $115 million loan facility from the Exim Bank is yet to see the light of day.
The project was to biometrically register all Ghanaians and provide a single data base that will be the reference point for all identification related activities.
A huge chunk of Ghanaians were registered across seven regions but the project was terminated at some point due to lack of funds, officials explained.
Those who were registered have yet to receive their cards.
Addressing Parliament during the budget presentation, the minister of finance said the national identification project will be re-launched.
Seth Terkper did not say exactly when the project will begin. He stated however that the project will be instituted as part of the policy to reform the Ghana Revenue Authority .
