The Acting President of the Ghana Baptist University College says the government can offer incentives for private universities in Ghana to thrive, contribute to the country's economic development, and provide quality education to students.
According to Mr Wiafe Nti Akenteng, the provision of financial assistance will help private universities cover operational costs, invest in infrastructure, and offer scholarships to students.
Speaking at the 16th congregation of the Ghana Baptist University College in Kumasi, he noted that Baptist University, for instance, has made significant strides in transforming and training a large number of professionals in the field of academics.

However, the university needs better resources.
"We have limited resources, and at the same time must develop faculty members. We have been advocating for quite a long time to get a quota of scholarships to private institutions. And now we have not seen anything yet from the government,” he stated.
Mr. Nti Akenteng believes the expansion, infrastructure development, and research initiatives of private universities will promote innovation and knowledge creation that will benefit the country.
“We believe that the government can implement strategies that would enhance the support for private universities because public schools can’t do it alone,” he said.

Over 500 students graduated under the university’s diploma, bachelor's and master's programmes.
