West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) will face a tricky test when they travel to the Carl Reindorf Park in Dansoman to face Liberty Professionals.
The Academy Boys have not had the perfect start to the season, having failed to win at home against Kotoko in last week’s league opener. However, the Sogakope-based side have the chance to return to winning ways when they face Liberty on Sunday.
Having seen their game against champions Aduana Stars postponed last week, the Scientific Soccer Lads will also seek to open their campaign with a victory at home.
WAFA were close to clinching the league title last season before a late collapse allowed Aduana to sidestep them to win the ultimate. But the club showed in last week’s 1-1 draw with Kotoko that they are prepared to give their title hopes another push.
Although it may be too early to predict who the favourites for the title are, WAFA are one of few teams that look very prepared for the campaign, having promoted several talented young players to replace the departed stars.
Liberty also lost a couple of their key players in the close-season, including captain Samuel Sarfo and striker Bernard Arthur. The aforementioned duo was ever-present in the Liberty team as they escaped relegation on the last day of the season.
However, like WAFA, the Dansoman-based club has always been able to replace its outgone stars as a result of their impeccable youth production line.
A very interesting game is expected at the Carl Reindorf Park when Liberty and WAFA clash, especially with both sides famed for their attacking brand of football.
For Liberty, it is a chance to prevent a repeat of their poor start to the previous campaign, whiles WAFA would also look to recover from that disappointing 1-1 draw with Kotoko last week.
