Mr Kwasi Oppong-Damoah, Greater-Accra Zone Two Regional Manager of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), has reiterated the Authority’s resolve to mobilize revenue for national development in an efficient, fair, effective and transparent manner.
To this end, he said, GRA would be firm and equitable in the delivery of service to its clients.
Mr Oppong-Damoah made these remarks at a tax education programme organized jointly by the Tema-Ashaiman Area offices of the Domestic Tax Revenue Division (DTRD) of the Authority in Tema to sensitize taxpayers on the need to honour promptly their tax obligations.
He said staff of GRA would continue to let team work, innovation, and above all, professionalism, be their guiding principles in the delivery of service.
Mr Oppong-Damoah said the Authority would integrate and modernize the operations and management of Domestic Taxes and Customs on functional lines to include taxpayer registration and services; returns and payments processing; debt management, enforcement and dispute resolution; and audit and investigations.
In order to achieve these reforms, he said, taxpayers would be segmented into large, medium and small taxpayer offices.
He announced that the Tema Local Vat Office would become operational by the end of the year.
Mr K. Twum Barimah, Tema District Manager of GRA, assured taxpayers in the Metropolis that since the Authority would want their businesses to grow and flourish, staff would continue to be customer-friendly to them at all times.
Mrs Nanzirata Duwiejua, Head of the Team Local VAT Office, who chaired the function, reminded Ghanaians that paying of tax was a national responsibility, which ought to be honoured and not evaded by any patriotic citizen.
