Great Olympics beat Hasaacas 2-1

Accra Great Olympics on Sunday secured a 2-1 victory over Sekondi Hasaacas in the 11th week Onetouch Premier League game played at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in the capital. The victory forms part of the efforts of the ‘Ghanaian Blues’ to step out of the relegation zone, having occupied the bottom position of the table for a long spell before the break. The wonder club took the lead in the 13th minute through Michael Ocansey when he out jumped the defenders of Hasaacas to head home a cross from Fuseini Ibrahim. Though the goal seemed to have set the tone for intense hostilities, the urgency with which both sides started the game, died out rendering the remaining half unexciting. Both sides however lifted their game in the second half and gave the scanty fans at the stadium something to cheer about. Again, it was Olympics who had the better share of the half when substitute Eric Adjei in brilliant fashion, sliced a mid-air cross with the outside of his right foot into the roof of the post, from Augustine Adofo’s cross in the 54th minute. Hasaacas attempted redemption and their best chance fell to veteran John Ainoo, but he blasted the ball off the post to deny his side of a goal. But for lack of composure, the visitors could have reduced the tally in the 71st minute when substitute Charles Nartey raced deep into the Olympics’ defensive third and with only goalkeeper Ibrahim Salifu to beat, he surprisingly shot into the hands of the goalkeeper - blowing away a perfect opportunity. Ten minutes on, Nartey made amends when he capitalized on a misunderstanding between Acquah Harrison and keeper Salifu to sweep in a long ball laid on his path from the midfield. Infuriated by the goal, Olympics renewed their attack on Hasaacas and came close in the 86th 89th and 90th minutes but failed to covert the chances that came their way though they managed to hold on to their lead till the close of proceedings.
