The Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs has ordered chiefs under its jurisdiction to cancel all social gatherings as the country hastens to curb the spread of coronavirus.
A statement copied to JoyNews said the President and Members of the Regional House of Chiefs have pledged their support to the measures announced by government to control the pandemic and have advised that all Traditional areas within Greater Accra adhere to stipulated measures.
“All annual festivals, funerals, naming and marriage ceremonies and social gatherings which attract large crowds should be called off until further notice.
“Chiefs should encourage all persons to be transparent and report early to health facilities should they feel unwell. This is a responsibility we must take as citizens of Ghana to protect our homes and families,” the statement added.
Also all appointments, functions and visits allowed into the various Palaces nationwide are to be suspended, unless deemed extremely important.
In such cases prior notice should allow for social distancing protocols to be strictly followed, the statement indicated, adding that the numbers allowed must also be limited to the prescribed number of 10.
All members of the Regional House of Chiefs are respectfully asked to cancel all meetings, functions and activities until further notice.
Chiefs, their entourage and all people in palace areas are advised to limit their travel and movement. They should also be circumspect and be cautious in their internal travel plans.
“Employees, dependents and all persons within the respective palaces and surrounding areas are to observe the social distancing protocol of one meter (three feet) when interacting with each other.
“We ask that you ensure that media houses linked to your various traditional councils are advised to be extremely cautious in their reportage and refrain from creating unnecessary fear and panic.”
