A former Minister of Health in the NPP administration, Major Courage Quashigah, has entreated the NDC government to put a team together to examine the authenticity of claims made by one Gregory Freizer that the government of Ghana owns some 47 billion dollars in a Swiss bank.
The Account, Oman Ghana Trust Fund was apparently set up by Ghana’s first President; Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
The Late Dr. Ackah Blay Meizah is alleged to have deceived the Late Military Head of State, General I K Acheampong into making him the sole trustee of the Account since 1975 to date.
Mr Gregory Freizer, who claims to have the password to the Account, has challenged the NDC Government to put him in jail if he is investigated and found to have told untruths about the fund.
He told Citi News that he was prepared to submit himself to any investigative body to prove the existence of the said account.
In an earlier interview with Citi News, a member of Government’s Economic Advisory team, Dr Cadman Mills said he doubted if the Oman Ghana Trust Account, believed to hold billions of dollars of money belonging to Ghana really exists.
The President’s brother described the Account as “mythical and senseless”.
However, Major Courage Quashigah, an old friend of Gregory Freizer says it is possible that Gregory Freizer may be telling the truth.
Speaking to Citi News, the former Health Minister implored the government to grant audience to Mr. Freizer and go through the processes he had laid down for Ghana to claim the said money since the procedures are very easy to follow and Ghana has nothing to lose.
Major Quashigah added that he doubts if Gregory Freizer was peddling falsehood because he (Gregory Freizer) was a ‘ranger’ colleague of his and rangers do not lie to each other.
Major Courage Quashigah however revealed that previous attempts by former Ghanaian governments to track the said 47 billion dollars from the Swiss Bank through the same procedures outlined by Gregory Freizer proved futile.
