A group calling itself, Concerned Health Workers of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has called on President John Dramani Mahama to sack Eddie Annan as Board Chairman of the hospital.
The group is accusing the Board Chairman of mismanagement, procurement malpractices, importation and use of expired lab reagents as well as appointing people onto the board without recourse to proper procedures.
Addressing a press conference, Thursday, spokesperson for the group, Anthony Kpammah said the nation’s premier hospital is facing an imminent collapse under the leadership of Mr. Annan.
But speaking to Joy News, the Board Chairman, Eddie Annan accused the spokesperson of the group, Anthony Kpammah of having his own agenda.
He said the claims by Mr Kpammah are sometimes a misunderstanding of the issue at stake.
According to Eddie Annan, contrary to claims by Mr Kpammah that the Director of Administration of the hospital was illegally done, the Board followed all necessary procedures, including a legal consultation before making new appointment.
He said the position had been vacant for more than a year, a situation which brought so much pressure on the Deputy Director who was then acting.
Eddie Annan said there was the need to fill that vacancy and that was exactly what the Board did.
He stated that his desire to ensure that vacancy was filled did not amount to abuse of power as being peddled by the concerned workers.
The Korle-Bu Board Chairman added he was not appointed to kowtow to the whims and caprices of persons like Anthony Kpemmah who always want to have their way in the management of the hospital.
