A group calling itself Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings (FONKAR) has warned members of government who have criticized the Former First couple for comments they make. The group mentioned Communications Minister Haruna Iddrisu, Deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Deputy Science and Environment Minister Dr Omane Boamah as some of the government appointees making disparaging remarks about the Rawlingses. It has asked the party leadership to halt the attack on the Rawlingses, failing which they would advise themselves."FONKAR believes such comments are reckless, irresponsible, very reprehensible and unbecoming of Ministers of state. We find it unacceptable the behavior of these Ministers and call on lovers of decency in our great party to come down very hard on the “FILTH” associated with these Ministers," press release by the group stated.Ransford Vanni-Amoah, founder of the group, has however denied the group is pushing for Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings to contest the 2012 elections.Story by Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/GhanaBelow is the full statementPRESS STATEMENT BY FRIENDS OF NANA KONADU AGYEMAN -RAWLINGS (FONKAR)HALT THE ATTACK ON THE RAWLINGSES!The friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings (FONKAR) have noted with deep concern the revival of insults, treachery and hypocrisy in national politics. In recent times, we have seen a persistent onslaught by certain nomadic minds within the NDC to discredit the character of the Rawlingses. We, the members of FONKAR have observed with dismay recent comments from the minister of Communication Haruna Iddrisu, deputy minister of Information Okudzeto Ablakwa and deputy minister of Science and Environment Dr Omane Boamah. Indeed the minister of communication was reported to have entreated party members to disregard the former first family.According to Haruna Iddrisu, the constant critique of President Mills by President Rawlings is a grand design to make President Mills unpopular and pave way for Nana Konadu to take over as NDC candidate for 2012 elections. He further stated that, the last thing NDC as a party would do is to substitute President Mills with Mrs. Rawlings because the latter will not only divide the party but will also send the party to opposition. On Thursday,10th June 2010, Dr.Omane Boamah launched a scathing attack on the Rawlingses. He (Omane Boamah) categorically stated that it is the calculated attempt by the Rawlingses to draw a wedge between his god-father (Prime Minister Ato Ahwoi) and President Mills. This was said during Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana.Okudzeto Ablakwah questioned how the poor foot soldiers of NDC managed to get money to print banners and also paid for their transport to Tamale on June 4th Commemoration of which they (Ablakwa and his other colleagues boycotted). He went on to say that, he was disappointed in Nana Konadu for not coming out to disassociate
herself from the movement? These childish questions were asked during Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Friday, 11th June, 2010.FONKAR believes such comments are reckless, irresponsible, very reprehensible and unbecoming of Ministers of state. We find it unacceptable the behavior of these Ministers and call on lovers of decency in our great party to come down very hard on the “FILTH” associated with these Ministers. We condemned their behaviour in no uncertain terms and call on the President to call his men to order.
We also do not understand why any individual or group of persons in the NDC would have any issue with Nana Konadu if she really has an intention to run for flagbearer in 2012 elections. In any case, we heard President Mills himself coming out boldly to declare his intention for re-election in 2012.It was less than six months in government that we saw an emergence of a group in Kumasi by name ATTA MILLS FOR 2012 whose saloon car is still moving around. Also on facebook, there is a group by name: ATTA MILLS FOR 2012 AND JOHN MAHAMA FOR 2016. On this same website, there is another group called DR. EKWOW SPIO-GARBRAH TO SUCCEED PRESIDENT ATTA MILLS. Is Ablakwa telling us that, he is not aware of that? We know he is aware as a deputy information minister and moreover he visits the facebook. Yet we haven’t heard the party leadership making any statement to that effect that it is unconstitutional. Are our leadership hypocrites? Does it mean if you are the president you are definitely a candidate for the next election? We have silently watched for far too long the insolence and temerity with which the likes of Haruna, Ablakwa and Omane Boamah sought to play their politics. We, the entire FONKAR membership will no longer allow these inexperienced chaps to cast aspersions at the Former First Lady and her Husband. We will forever protect and defend the good legacy of the Rawlingses. If there is anyone to insult the Rawlingses, it should not have been this reprobate called Haruna Iddrisu who benefited greatly from them (Rawlingses). Without the Rawlingses, you would have been nobody. They sacrificed their whole lives for you to become a minister. A man like him (Haruna Iddrisu) can today insult and slight them (Rawlingses). Does he know how this party was formed? He needs to be tutored that NANA KONADU was even more responsible for the formation of the NDC they now belong to than even her husband. We call on the party leadership to halt the attacks on the Rawlingses or else the repercussions will be heavy for the NDC to bear.FONKAR will be watching events within the party with juvenile glee and will appropriately come out with statements in support of NANA KONADU AGYEMAN-RAWLINGS.LONG LIVE THE RAWLINGSES
LONG LIVE SOCIAL DEMOCRACY
LONG LIVE GHANA
