The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has withdrawn the accreditation of three postgraduate programmes at the Institute of Development & Technology Management (IDTM) in Cape Coast for violating approved delivery modes.
In a letter signed by GTEC’s Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, on Wednesday, September 17, the Commission stated that IDTM was running its PhD, MPhil, and MA in Development Studies as weekend programmes, although accreditation had only been granted for regular weekday delivery.
GTEC stressed that accredited programmes cannot be repackaged or delivered in alternative formats, such as weekend or sandwich, without prior approval.
As a result, the Commission has directed IDTM to:
Withdraw all admission letters issued under the unauthorised weekend version of the programme.
Cease fresh admissions into the PhD in Development Studies.
Submit documentary proof of compliance with the directives.
Provide a comprehensive teach-out plan by October 17, 2025, to ensure enrolled students can complete their studies without disruption.
The teach-out plan will be overseen by the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Additionally, GTEC has ordered UCC and KNUST to terminate all collaborative admissions arrangements with IDTM immediately.
The Commission warned that failure to comply will attract strict regulatory sanctions. However, it noted that IDTM may reapply for fresh accreditation if it intends to run the programmes in a weekend format in the future.
