Police in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua have detained a first-year student of the Ghana Secondary School (GHANASS) for attacking the Effiduasi Police station.
Joshua Sarfo Korkpatey, 19, was earlier suspended indefinitely by the authorities of GHANASS for stealing some mattresses in the school.
He was later reported to the police who arrested him for investigation and granted police enquiry bail until he attacked the police station on Monday.
The Eastern Regional PRO of the Ghana Police Service, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh says the student stormed the Effiduasi police station very furious with a metal bar and a locally manufactured pistol with one round of A.A Cartridge in the chamber.
He then threatened to kill the investigator in charge of his case, Lance Corporal Oppong Noah but he was overpowered and disarmed by Police.
ASP Ebenezer Tetteh said, whilst Korkpatey Sarfo was in detention for his attack on the station, he began shouting and behaving like he was suffering from some mental condition or that he was hallucinating.
Joshua was subsequently escorted to the Psychiatric Unit of the Regional Hospital Koforidua where he is currently undergoing psychiatric examination.
“Police will take further action after a thorough mental examination on the suspect,” ASP Tetteh added.
