Water supply to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Kumasi Polytechnic (K-Poly) resumed Thursday afternoon, days after it was disconnected for non-payment of bills.

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) decided to cut services to the two prominent institutions after incessant calls on them to settle their bills fell on deaf ears.

KNUST and K-Poly owe the utility provider six million cedis and ₵456, 777.40 respectively. The company says it is struggling to break even, accusing consumers of failing to pay for about 25 percent of the water they consume.

The company warned that more public and private facilities would be disconnected by its Loss Control and District Task Force teams in the coming weeks.

GWCL Regional Communications Manager, Sampson Ampah, was emphatic that government agencies as well as metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies will not be spared.

However, after a meeting with officials of the Ministries of Education, and Works and Water Resources today, Ghana Water Company Limited agreed to resume supply to these educational institutions.
