Hawkers at the Kasoa tollbooth are still plying their trade at the area despite a recent fatal accident there. The tollbooth set up some months ago has attracted many hawkers some of whom have been killed in motor accidents there. The hawkers told Joy News' Fiifi Koomson they have been compelled by economic pressures to do business there eventhough they are aware of the extreme danger. According to them, they and their kids will starve if they stay at home and don’t come there to sell. Many however said they will quit selling there if only they are given jobs to do. A taxi driver who also plies the road expressed worry at the situation. He said he feels bad at the extremely high speed of drivers on the road, a contributory factor to the accidents on that road. The District Chief Executive for Ga South, Sherrif Nii Otoo Dodoo told Joy News that the hawkers have declined several attempts by the district to relocate them. He indicated that they have provided a place at the Amanfrom Market for the hawkers – which they have turned down but his outfit will use “minimum force” to move them from the tollbooth to the market. Mr Otoo Dodoo said the situation has intensified due to the increasing numbers of hawkers who have been sacked from the Accra central area trooping to the tollbooth to sell but promised that a final action will be taken in a fortnight. He emphasised that, if the hawkers fail to comply this time around, they will have to move the wares elsewhere. Source: Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
