The savvy and technologically sound President John Mahama dazzled the Minority in Parliament, deputy Majority Leader Rashid Pelpuo has said. Pelpuo further stated that the criticisms of the brevity of the president's address were unsustainable. He said the even the Minority were dazzled by the dexterity of the president's presentation. The president used a teleprompter in his presentation of the State of the Nation Address which has also been described as the shortest ever address. He has however come under heavy criticisms for the brevity of the Address on Friday. He took a little over 20 minutes to finish the abridged version of the address but hinted he would provide the comprehensive address to the House for the purpose Parliamentary debate. But that did not go down well with some, especially the Minority in Parliament who claim there will not be room for debate given that Parliament was being dissolved the very day he presented the speech. The Minority argued the president left out in his address key issues that happened under the four year tenure. On MultiTV and Joy FM’s news analysis programme Newsfile on Saturday, the Editor in Chief of the New Crusading Guide news paper Malik Kweku Baako jnr quoted a statement by John Mahama in 2005 critiquing the State of the Nation Address delivered by the then President John Kufuor. John Mahama who was then a Member of Parliament for Bole argued the State of the Nation Address must have a formula and must answer three questions; “Where are we now as a country? Where are we going and how do we intend to get there.” On that basis, Malik Baako again quoted John Mahama as saying President Kufuor's address fell short of expectations and did not address key issues affecting the country at the time. Malik Baako questioned if President John Mahama took his own formula into consideration before delivering yesterday’s address. Nana Akomea who was also on the show said Mahama’s presentation was nothing but a recitation of political campaign talk. But the Deputy Majority Leader Rashid Pelpuo however disagreed. He stated that the president’s speech was admirable, even to the Minority in Parliament. In an apparent support of the views by the deputy Majority Leader, the presidential spokesperson John Jinapor said the arguments by the Minority are misplaced. He told Joy News’ Francis Abban the president could not possibly go into details when the House was being dissolved. He said the president will have another opportunity in the coming days to address the House and will address some of the concerns the minority is raising.
