The embattled Member of Parliament for Bawku Central Adamu Dramani has suffered another legal setback in his bid to keep his seat as an application for a stay of execution filed by his lawyers has been thrown out.The High Court presided over by Justice K.A. Asiedu, ruled July 16 that Mr Dramani could no longer continue to hold the seat because he held dual citizenship at the time he filed nomination papers for the seat.At its latest ruling the court held that Mr Dramani had refused to commence his defence although he was given ample time to do so and several invitations made to him to proceed with a defence. The court therefore decided to throw out Mr Dramani’s application for a stay of execution on that basis.Lawyer for Mr Dramani Yoni Kulendi had prayed the court to stay execution on its default judgement, advancing the argument that the court must not be compelled to give a verdict on “an issue that must be determined on its merit.”But Dr Raymond Atuguba, lawyer for the plaintiff, Sumaila Bilbil, established that Mr Dramani had had enough time to file a defence but had refused to do so and that the court must not delay judgement on the matter. They said their client had provided enough evidence to show that Mr Dramani was not a Ghanaian at the time the MP filed nomination papers for the seat.Meanwhile the MP is said to have commenced an appeal against against the High Court’s decision.Story by Fiifi Koomson/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
