The Ghana National Chamber Of Commerce and Industry has expressed worry about the increasing rate of armed robberies on the nation’s highway and what seems as government’s laid back attitude in dealing drastically with the situation. Members of the Accra regional Chamber of commerce and Industry at their 563rd meeting in Accra lamented on their difficulty to do business in the various regions without been attacked by either Fulani Herdsmen or armed robbers. Most members present at the meeting expressed serious concerns about the dire consequences these armed robberies, have on their activities as business men and women. They stated that since it is almost impossible to sit in the capital to undertake all business transactions, some of them have had to hire security to travel with them at night at an extra cost which they say is burdensome, not to talk about those who cannot afford the cost involved. Those who take up the risk, to travel at night, at dawn or even sometimes in broad day light end up being attacked, resulting in loss of capital, injuries or even deaths. To this end, the President of the Ghana National Chamber Of Commerce and Industry, Hon Seth Adjei-Baah (MP for Nkawkaw), is calling on government to ensure that proper measures are put in place to rid our highways off this menace bearing in mind the effect of these robberies on businesses and productivity as a whole. Hon. Adjei-Baah is of the view that the security forces, especially the police service, should be well resourced and given regular training to equip them with all the needed skills to enable them effectively deal with the new trends in armed robbery.
