Members of the Amputee National Football team are set to be rewarded by the government, according to the Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif.
Each member of the team will be given $2000 following a successful meeting with the minister.
The Black Challenge won the maiden edition of the Amputee Africa Cup of Nations which was held last month in Tanzania.
Prior to winning the title, the team fled from Ghana to Tanzania on their own without the clearance from the Sports Ministry.
Ghana beat Liberia in the final of the competition after success in the previous rounds and were forced to record a video of themselves which went viral on social media as they solicited for support after claiming to be stranded.
The video caught the attention of the Sports Ministry, who in turn bought tickets to ensure the safety arrival of the nine players back to Ghana earlier this month.
Mustapha Ussif invited the team to the Ministry where he commended them for their heroics in the East African country while also announcing their reward package.
The Sports Minister also urged the Amputee Football Federation to sort out their challenges in order to grow the sport.
“While we are thankful for our efforts, I’ll like to use this opportunity to call on all parties at the Amputee Football Federation to settle your differences and forge forward with the sole purpose of developing amputee football,” Ussif said.
