Personnel of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority on Sunday intercepted a large consignment dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp on the Adidome- Sogakope road.
The haul said to weigh 215.95 kilograms was described as the largest single consignment to be seized in the Volta region in the last two years by Mr Seth Kpormegbe, the Head of the Narcotic Control Board (NACOB) at Aflao.
Mr Ben Beckley, an Assistant Commissioner of Customs, told the Press that a patrol team of the Division encountered a Hyundai mini-bus with registration number GE 3635-Y travelling from Adidome to Sogakope at 0500 hours.
He said the driver, who was travelling alone, attempted to bribe members of the patrol team when they discovered the neatly packaged consignment in two large sacks and a mini-bag when the bus was searched.
Mr Beckley added that the driver fled into the bush when members of the team refused to accept the bribe he was offering to them.
The haul was handed over to NACOB in Aflao for onward transfer to Accra.
