A leading member of the ruling NDC, Kakra Essamuah has launched a scathing attack on the opposition NPP for blaming the late President’s death on his handlers.
Lawyer Essamuah said the posture of the NPP smacks of hypocrisy and an insult to the late President John Atta Mills’ memory.
The NPP had raised concerns about government’s decision to hide the health condition of the late President Mills when it was visible that his health was deteriorating.
The opposition party believed the President’s health was of extreme importance to Ghanaians who voted him to power hence deserved that right to know the truth.
The NPP also criticized the ruling party for flouting the one week state of mourning declared by the president John Mahama to mark the sudden demise of John Mills.
However, speaking on Asempa FM’s flagship political programme Ekosii Sen Tuesday, Kakra Essamuah said the NPP cannot assume a holier than thou attitude when in fact they cowardly created an impression to Ghanaians that the late President Mills was not fit to govern.
He indicated that the NPP cannot profess to love the late John Mills than the party on whose ticket he [Mills] became President.
Lawyer Essamuah noted that some NPP members notably Nana Akomea acted as if they knew the late Mills would die when they continuously demanded the whereabout of the late President.
Kakra maintained that “the man [Mills] was not found to be incapable of carrying out the functions of his office” before his death and thus could not fathom the needless noise from the NPP.
He added that the NDC finds solace in the fact even the opposition parties acknowledge the fact that the late Mills was a peace loving President who had the interest of Ghana at heart.
Kakra Essamuah said that no country in the world is run like a business hence the late President Mills performed to the best of his abilities.
In a rebuttal, NPP Parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wogon, Kwabena Agyarko; a discussant on the programme debunked suggestions that his party wished the late President dead.
According to him, best practices in modern democracy normally called for full disclosure on the late President’s health hence the NDC should have known better.
Kwabena Agyarko reiterated that it will not take anything away from the NPP if they speak well of the late President.
