An aspiring flag-bearer of the New Patriotic Party, Alan Kyerematen, says he did not concede defeat in the party’s 2007 delegate’s conference but that he surrendered victory to Nana Addo for the sake of party unity.Alan Kyerematen was among the 17 candidates who contested the 2007 flag-bearership race of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He polled 738 votes, representing 32.3 per cent as against the 1,096 votes, representing 47.96 that Nana Addo had.Alan conceded defeat, allowing Nana Addo to sail through even though he [Nana] fell short of the constitutionally mandated 50 per cent plus one votes necessary to be elected as flagbearer.But speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Mr Kyerematen said his decision to allow the then leading candidate to be flag-bearer was not a concession of defeat but that he was demonstrating his willingness to sacrifice for the sake of unity at a time that the party needed it most.This sacrifice, he said, is very instrumental on his journey to become the party’s flag-bearer, emphasising that he is the one who can truly unite the NPP.Mr Kyerematen told Super Morning Show host, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah that he is confident he will win the race because Ghanaians have become increasingly aware of a worldwide political trend where youthful, dynamic and inspiring leaders are elected to manage affairs.He added that the delegates are beginning to realise the need for a face that goes beyond the NPP, confident that he [Alan] is that new face that would appeal to majority of Ghanaians, especially the youth.By: Dorcas Efe Mensah/myjoyonline.com/Ghana
