The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atiwa in the Eastern region has dismissed reports that he collapsed while reading his speech at this year's Independence Day anniversary.
Emmanuel Atta Twum told Joy News he felt weak suddenly while delivering his address on Sunday so he handed over his speech to the District Education Director to continue.
Mr Twum was reported to have collapsed while reading his speech on Independence Day at the Atiwa-Kwabeng Presbyterian park and was rushed to an unknown destination for medical care.
The DCE who insists he is as fit as a fiddle admitted he stopped reading his speech half-way through but did not faint.
"I felt weak and thought that I should let my Education Director read my speech so it came as a surprise to me that it was on air that I collapsed. It is total lies and fabrication. If I had collapsed I would have been taken to the hospital but that wasn't the situation. I was in the house taking my rest,” he explained.
He also rubbished claims that his constituency executives have called for his dismissal due to his constant fainting at public functions.
According to the DCE, he personally facilitated the organization of the executive committee meeting which purportedly took the decision and at no point did they discuss issues relating to him or his health.
Mr Twum made these claims despite a petition by executives of Atiwa West and East constituencies to the government to dismiss the DCE or compel him to take a sick leave.
He has blamed the story on deliberate efforts by hidden faces to make him unpopular.
Last Sunday's incident happens to be the fourth time the DCE has reportedly collapsed during a public function.
