Not many actresses will be so bold to go nude in movies, but actress Ama K. Abebrese says she has no problem doing so if it serves a good purpose.
“I don’t have any problem going nude in movies but I will only do that if it serves a good purpose. For instance, if I am to play a Yaa Asantewaa role where she was stripped, I would gladly do that. The purpose for which the nudity is used is the main issue,” she said in an interview with Showbiz.
According to Ama K. Abebrese, if Ghanaians don’t have a problem with Dipo rites where breasts are displayed, then they should not have a problem with actors going nude in movies.
She explained that Ghanaians made a big case out of nudity, but there was actually nothing wrong with it when used in the right context.
Known for movies such as Sinking Sands, Ties That Bind, Beasts of No Nation, Interception, The Cursed Ones, Sink or Swim, Azali, Lotanna and The Burial of Kojo, the actress, who has not been very active on the scene for a while, said she had been busy doing her own thing.
According to her, she gets a lot of movie roles but has to turn down the offers because they are not good enough.
“It’s not about the money but the passion for it. If it was for the money, I might probably have shot so many movies but I am very selective with the movies I feature in. When I was young, I had always wanted to act so I pay particular attention to the roles I play and I take my acting career very seriously,” she said.
To Ama K. Abebrese, it is sometimes best if you keep quiet, work underground and let your work speak for you.
“I have been more than busy in these past years shooting movies in different countries and planning my own TV show,” she said.
Her new show, Champions of Society, which airs on Kwesé TV tackles social and health issues and sees Ama talking directly to the people whose lives they affect.
Ama K. Abebrese started hosting TV shows in her teens on YCTV in London. She went on to present on BBC2, OBE TV, Viasat 1, TV3, Ebonylife TV and many others
