Minister of Tourism, Creative Arts and Culture, Barbara Oteng Gyasi

Minister of Tourism, Creative Arts and Culture, Barbara Oteng Gyasi has said she does not expect personalities in the creative arts sector to charge professional fees for featuring in campaigns on Covid-19.

The initiative which is expected to be implemented under the auspices of the Ministry of Information and Creative Arts Council seeks to involve celebrities to leverage their influence in educating the public on the virus.

“We recognize that people imbibe information differently and it is often easier to transfer information through artistic pieces, so the creative arts council is working with the Ministry of Information to come up with little skits that will educate Ghanaians on the coronavirus and the protocols," she said.

The sector minister told JoyNews' Doreen Avio: "some funding will be made available to the technical production" with the hope that those involved will not take professional fees due to the all-inclusive nature of the fight against the spread of the novel coronavirus.

“I also don’t expect our industry players to charge professional fees in this wake because we are all helping in fighting the pandemic,” Mrs Oteng Gyasi explained.

Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, celebrities have used their various platforms to educate and encourage Ghanaians to adhere to the safety protocols as part of measures to help clamp down on the virus.
