Legendary Broadcaster and host of Cosmopolitan Mix on Joy FM, Doreen Andoh, has disclosed that she does not know the nitty-gritty of working with a producer.
She said she independently produced her own shows including DJing for the first ten (10) years of her career after completing secondary school.
This makes her not understand and realise what it is like to work with a producer for the over 25 years she has worked as a media personality.
The radio goddess made this revelation during the Season 2 premiere of ‘Changes', which airs on Joy Prime, while responding to the question of how strict her producers were.

“I worked for 10 years without a producer. So, I don’t know what it is to have worked with a producer from scratch. Yes, I was my own presenter, producer, and DJ. I’ve always played my own music; I don’t have a DJ.”
She learned to do all the productions from the beginning, which she eventually got used to and enjoyed doing.
Compared to the current technological advancement in media, she said in her early days one had to be properly trained to acquire the requisite skills in production and other basic requirements that come with the job because mistakes were not pardonable.
“I learned from the get-go that we should pretty much weigh the songs we play. Songs with nude lyrics were definitely a no-no; we made sure we sampled the music before putting it on air. At that time, you also had to make sure that you were learning the songs and knowing which ones were radio edited, which means that they were clean songs. We went through training to learn pronunciations because a lot of people would 'butcher' the local names, and it was unpardonable, but now presenters have walked away with too much.”
Her media career was accidental because she wanted to study pharmacy, which unfortunately did not happen as lecturers were on strike and universities closed at the time.
She decided to apply for a presenter opportunity on radio since it was her hobby, but it later developed into a passion and influenced her to divert to journalism and public relations.
Due to how things started for her, she passionately learned all production techniques on the job, never bothering about getting produced.
