Former Ghanaian Big Brother Africa housemate and entrepreneur, Mimi Adani, has spoken about the cause of her divorce after eight years of marriage.
She said the divorce was as a result of emotional and mental abuse, narcissistic behaviour from her ex-husband, manipulation, and excessive cheating.
Speaking to Amelley Djosu on Joy Prime’s Celeb Biz, she explained that most women tend to kill themselves slowly in abusive and unhappy marriages because people say women should not talk about their marital issues or for their children’s sake, which to her doesn’t make sense. She feels as though most women are sacred to leave abusive marriages because they're not empowered financially.
“For me, it was emotional abuse; there was cheating as well, manipulation, and narcissistic traits, which are very dangerous. I couldn’t survive it; I tried, but I couldn't, so I had to just move on; it’s as simple as that. There was no physical abuse or anything like that, but cheating and narcissism were the causes of my problems, and they were affecting me mentally.”
The actress does not see divorce as a good thing but thinks it’s necessary when there is unbearable silent suffering. Mimi is of the opinion that a woman can’t force a successful marriage when she knows her union is failing.
“I also think that women who don’t empower themselves are always scared to leave the marriage, even when they are abused emotionally, because if they go back to their parents’ houses to complain, they’ll push them back and ask who will take care of the kids. But if you empower yourself like me, I went easy like ABC,"she said.
Mimi tied the knot with Nana Michaels in 2016 and was blessed with a daughter. Unfortunately, their marriage journey had to come to an end.
Considering her experience, Mimi Andani has charged women who are trapped in toxic and abusive marriages to follow in her footsteps and be bold enough to leave, for the betterment of their mental health and that of their children.
