Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper Kwesi Pratt says even though he has confidence in the President, he believes Mr John Mahama “must wake up” and realise his victory places a huge responsibility on him. He said the president must bear in mind that Ghanaians have put him in charge of affairs to deliver a specific mandate; therefore he must focus on doing just that. Kwesi Pratt made these statements on Radio Gold’s current affairs programme, Alhaji & Alhaji Saturday. According to him, there are too many people in the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) who think the party’s victory in the 2012 polls is all about ‘sharing posts’. Such individuals, according to him, are busily lobbying for positions in the next government without thinking of how the party can solve concrete problems of the Ghanaian people – the real reason for which they were retained NDC in power. “…And all of these charlatans, some of whom did nothing in the campaign, who are popping up from the woodwork…trying to grab positions for themselves and elbow others out must be told in plain language that this is not party time, this is time to work.” Mr Pratt said the preoccupation of every NDC member now should be that of the inauguration of the president on January 7 “rather than posts for individuals”. “All of those people doing that are hurting the NDC and hurting the NDC badly,” he insisted, urging President Mahama to send a strong signal to those people that “governance is not about friendships”. “I have a lot of confidence in President John Dramani Mahama but he should wake up and realise that it is not time for tango. The people who put him there can remove him any day if he makes mistakes. “So he should listen to the voice of the people, he should look at the manifesto and he should watch out all these things that are happening…these useless lobbyists who are possibly just thinking about their pockets must be watched closely because they have nothing good to offer this country”.
