The Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), Dr. Tony Aubynn, has dismissed reports suggesting that staff members have been sacked from his outfit.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Dr. Aubynn clarified that no employee has been sacked, but rather, some staff members were released after failing to meet expectations during their probation period.
“I have not sacked anyone. It’s just a normal HR process. When you are recruited, you are placed on probation. If at the end of your probation your performance is not satisfactory, the recommendation is that you leave. But to say people have been sacked — that is not true,” he said.
Dr. Aubynn stated that the exit of a few individuals was purely based on professional assessments and recommendations by the Human Resource department.
“Even those who have left are about five people. They are not even many. When I assumed office, some recommendations had already been made regarding their performance. The HR system I met is very professional, and I don’t interfere in their work” he added.
He further explained that probation is part of the employment process and helps both the employer and the employee determine suitability for the job.
“Probation is designed to prepare you for full employment. If the assessment shows you are not fit for the job, then you can be asked to leave. That’s a normal HR practice everywhere,” he added.
Dr. Aubynn urged the public to disregard claims suggesting mass dismissals at the corporation.
