Ningo Prampram MP, Samuel Nartey George, has rubbished claims by a National Security officer that he broke the law twice to save him at the Kotoka International Airport.

He told Evans Mensah on Joy FM’s Newsnight show that Bright Ernest Akomea, popularly known as ‘Double’, did not do him any favour at the VIP Lounge of the KIA. 

The former presidential staffer stated that as a legislator he is entitled to the privilege of using the Lounge so there is no point for him to ask for someone else’s help. 

Double, who took his turn at the Emile Short Commission Tuesday, disclosed that he sidestepped laid down procedure to help the MP on two occasions.

The National Security operative stationed at the KIA alleged that he helped Mr. Sam George’s visitors to use the VIP when they did not qualify.

When asked how he knew the MP, he told the Commission they met at the Airport three days after the shooting incident that marred the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election which the Commission is investigating.

“They [Sam George and his visitors] wanted to use the VIP Lounge although they were not authorised to do so, but I helped them to pass through,” he said.

Mr Ernest Akomea said Mr Sam George also informed him that he will be making an appearance at the Commission to testify two days earlier.

This was after he again helped Sam George who had had an issue with the La Dadekotopong Municipal Assembly guards who clamped his car and were towing it after he parked at the wrong place at the Airport.

But the MP, who said he does not have Double’s number denied this. 

“Double is not the head of the VIP Lounge, Fred is, so if I needed any favour I would be calling Fred or my protocol unit in parliament. I will not be calling an unlettered illiterate National Security Officer to do that job,” he said.

According to him, after speaking to Fred, he was directed to speak to the Chief of Protocol at the Foreign Affairs Ministry for clearance, which he did.

“By the time the approval came, my guests had already used the regular immigration procedures and found themselves at Terminal 3. So, they did not use the VIP Lounge,” he said.

Regarding Double’s claim that he helped him the MP break the law again after his vehicle was clamped for a parking offence, the vociferous MP also rejected that claim.

He is ready to waive his right to privacy for his network operator to provide the Commission with his entire call log in the week Double claims they communicated via phone.

He said he wants to give the Commission the benefit of the doubt. 

“I want to believe that the Commission is going to highlight that one of the reasons why they do not deem him as credible who they will not place currency on his testimony.

“If the Commission in its report would place any currency on that then I will seek to clear my name and call for his arrest,” he said.
