Gomoa Central legislator, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has denied ever receiving payment to influence investigations into the National Service Secretariat (NSS) scandal.
The Gomoa Central MP issued an official statement on Friday clarifying his position following accusations, which he claimed were linked to a fake social media account impersonating him.
The controversy stems from a recent press conference by the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, where he referenced the account’s claims and called for A-Plus to answer questions regarding the NSS scandal.
In his statement, A-Plus firmly stated: "I have never received any payment from the NSS, nor do I have any business—directly or indirectly—with the Secretariat. I have never contacted anyone to suppress or influence the matter in any way."
However, he revealed that his only connection to the issue was in November 2024 when an individual approached him, claiming to be falsely accused in the scandal.
A-Plus admitted that his intention was to assist an accused person in seeking media redress.
"The only time I came into contact with the issue was in November 2024, when a gentleman approached me claiming he was being falsely accused. As a media personality and majority shareholder in a Ghanaian media company (as declared in my asset declaration), he sought my assistance to help clear his name through media engagements," he wrote in the May 3 statement.
The MP insisted that as a media personality and majority shareholder in a media company, he offered to help the accused person share his side of the story through media engagements.
He added that "if this support is being misinterpreted as an attempt to suppress the case, I respectfully disagree," he said.
"I firmly believe that every accused person deserves to be heard."
