Roads and Highways Minister, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has expressed his commitment to positioning Ghana’s road construction sector as a key driver of the national economy.
He said the sector holds the potential to create jobs, improve fiscal stability, enhance standards of living, and unlock wider economic opportunities.
"I want construction to be one of the strongest growth points in the economy next year. A construction to grow the economy, which means there will be more jobs, more activity in the economy, banking and everything else," he said on JoyFM's Super Morning Show on Thursday, September 4.
According to him, to achieve this, contractors needed to be paid for their works.
"It is our responsibility to work as hard as we can to make sure we pay them whatever we owe them because we don't want the Ghanaian contractor to go under because if they collapse, that is unemployment that they are going to bring."
Mr Agbodza thanked contractors who continue to sacrifice their energy to work for the country despite not being paid and assured them of improved working conditions under the current government.
Mr Agbodza stressed that under his leadership, the ministry will work to ensure that road infrastructure development contributes meaningfully to the country’s economic transformation.
