President John Mahama is enlisting the support of the National House of Chiefs to promote peace and unity in the 2012 elections.At a meeting with the chiefs in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, the president said he will be father for all before, during and after the elections.He reiterated his commitment to wage a decent campaign devoid of insults and mudslinging.“The country needs peace to go through this election. In this regard I call on the support of Nananom and call for their cooperation in the maintenance of peace and order before during and after the election.“I also urge leaders of other political parties who are seeking the highest political office of this country to conduct their electioneering campaign devoid of provocative utterances, mudslinging and character assassinations. After all we all brothers and sisters and we will continue to be so even after the elections.“…On my part I am committed to prosecuting a peaceful, decent electioneering campaign before and during the December elections.“I have assured the country already and I wish to restate that I will be a president for all Ghanaians,” regardless of political, social ethnic and religious differences the president added.“It is my aim to wed all Ghanaians into one big happy family whilst still recognizing the diversity in culture and language that we have,” the president assured.The president as part of the visit donated 12 Toyota Land Cruisers to the Regional and National Houses of Chiefs.But the Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party Jake Obetsebi Lamptey has challenged the president to walk the talk.He told Joy News the president cannot go preaching chiefs he will be president for all when he is asking northerners to vote for him merely because he comes from the north.He said the comment allegedly made by the president was divisive.Jake Obetsebi Lamptey also questioned the timing of the donation of the vehicles to the Regional and National Houses of Chiefs.He said if the donation is to bribe the chiefs then the president failed because the chiefs cannot be bribed.
