Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Joseph Yamin says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) challenging the 2012 presidential results has no moral justification to seek a review after the final verdict by the Supreme Court on August 29. According to him,it will be hypocritical for the NPP to appeal after it sought through it appendage to quash a Supreme Court ruling which allows parties to seek review. Joseph Yamin was reacting to the call by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) on parties involved in the Presidential Election Petition not to seek review after the ruling. The economic tink tank believes a review will impede the process of national reconciliation and unity. But Joseph Yamin on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday said IEA’s call is ill-timed. He contended that the economic tink tank should have persuaded the NPP to rescind its decision to challenge the legitimacy of President John Mahama in court if indeed they wanted peace in the country. Joseph Yamin added since the NPP has decided to test the law anyone who will be aggrieved after the final verdict is also at liberty to seek review. "Why should the IEA plead on parties not to go for review; is it not also part of the law? Why are they not urging people to test the law if they want peace? We should test the law to the fullest" he stressed. The Deputy Youth Minister said the call for peace is becoming deafening and rather sending a wrong signal to the international committee. Though optimist of victory for the respondents, he maintained that "if there will be a review, NPP has no moral justification to do so". Joseph Yamin reiterated government readiness to accept the verdict of the court if it goes either way.
