The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has indicated his interest in running for a second term at his post in the upcoming NDC Delegate’s Conference in November.
According to him, the heights he and his team have managed to carry the NDC just following the party’s devastating loss in the 2016 elections to their current form now is enough evidence of his capabilities as leader of the party.
Speaking on PM Express Personality Profile, he said, “Well definitely I will. I believe that having taken the party from a position where when I took over this party we had gone into an election whilst in government and lost about 53 seats; and lost with over 1 million votes;
“And within a space of less than two years we were able to work so hard to increase our popular votes by almost 2 million and increase our parliamentary seats from 106 to 137, I mean, with some contending seats still being litigated in the law court. We’ve pushed parliament into a hung parliament now, the first time in the history of the fourth republic.”
He added, “I think that we’ve done very well, and we have the strategies and the tactics that were adopted to achieve this and so all what we need is to straighten the rough edges, plug the loopholes and ensure that going into 2024 we’ll win with a resounding victory.”
He was optimistic that the delegates that will be attending the Delegate’s Conference in November will make the ‘right choice’ in choosing a leader for the party in order to win the upcoiming 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
“So I will definitely put myself out and I believe that the delegates when the time comes the power to decide whether I continue or not resides in the hands of the delegates. But I know the NDC delegates they don’t make mistakes, they know who are capable of winning and leading them to win elections.
“So when the time comes I believe that we’ll make the appropriate statement and they’ll respond appropriately and they’ll move the party forward,: he said.
