The presidential candidate for the Movement for Change, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, has assured Ghanaians that he will restore the country’s declining economy and create more jobs for the youth.
Speaking to members of the Asewa community in the Bosomefreho constituency in the Asanti region on Saturday, October 5, 2024, Mr Kyerematen underscored his commitment to reviving the economy and alleviating the hardships caused by what he described as poor economic management under the current government.
Mr Kyerematen, who is currently on a 19-day tour of the Ashanti Region, visited several communities including Asewa, Anyinase, Danso, Nsuaem Number 1, Nsuaem Number 2, Amomorso, and Abosamaom, delivering his message of economic recovery.
He highlighted that the challenges Ghanaians are facing today are a direct result of the collapsed economy under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
“The suffering you are going through is because of the bad economy they have created. When I come, I'll fix it,” Mr Kyerematen stated.
One of the key pillars of his plan is job creation, particularly for the youth, a critical issue he said has reached a point of national security.
"Youth unemployment is not just an economic problem; it’s a threat to our security. When young people don’t have jobs, the country becomes unstable," he explained.
Alan Kyerematen’s Great Transformational Plan (GTP) prioritises the creation of sustainable jobs for the youth by supporting entrepreneurship and industrialisation.
Mr Kyerematen emphasised that his approach will not only create more jobs but also ensure they are sustainable, providing long-term employment solutions rather than short-term fixes.
He noted that job creation will be pursued through industrial expansion and innovation in sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, and technology.
“The youth will play a key role in this transformation, and we will give them the tools and support to succeed,” he promised.
Additionally, he highlighted the importance of aligning education with job opportunities. Mr Kyerematen explained that under his government, educational curricula would be reformed to focus more on skills development and entrepreneurship to prepare students for the job market.
“Our education system must be fit for purpose, and that means training our young people for the jobs that exist and the ones we are creating,” he said.
As part of his plan, Mr Kyerematen intends to establish a Youth Development Fund to support young entrepreneurs and startups.
He emphasised that this fund will be accessible and properly managed to ensure that resources reach those who need them most.
“We cannot talk about job creation without giving our youth the capital they need to start their own businesses,” he added.
His promise to fix the economy and create jobs has resonated with many Ghanaians, particularly the youth, who are looking for a leader capable of addressing their needs and securing their future.
The Movement for Change's leader ended his speech by calling on the people of Bosomefreho to vote for change in 2024.
“If you want a future where the economy works for everyone, vote for me, and I will fix it,” he said.
