The flagbearer for the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Dr Daniel Augustus Lartey Jnr., has pledged to transform the nation into a self-reliant country through farming if he wins the upcoming elections.
According to him, he will create employment opportunities for the youth, particularly through farming, which he views as a vital tool for boosting the economy.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on September 26, he said, “If we cannot rely on ourselves, we can’t feed ourselves, if we can’t buy our own industry and our own products we produce, then we are in trouble. My leadership with the GCPP is to make sure we are self-reliant. We grow what we eat and we eat what we grow.”

Dr Lartey stated that farming is a crucial pathway to achieving self-reliance for the country.
He proposed solutions to enhance the agricultural sector, suggesting that the government will establish wholesale markets to buy directly from farmers.
According to him, many successful economies, especially in Europe, were built on a foundation of strong agricultural practices.
“They did serious farming. Its hardwork. We know its hard work. The youth also know its hard work. When you do the farming properly, we know that every three months, produce comes out. So these produce, you can eat and sell some. Those you can’t sell, my government will have whole sale that will buy from you, and then we can export and get foreign currency.”
“If we cannot feed ourselves, there is no way we can solve our problems,” he said.
