Former Presidential Candidate aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen says he wished he had embarked on his 'Great Transformational Plan' on the ticket of the NPP.
According to him, his pursuit of a united party where the current practice of winner takes all would be eschewed did not gain traction within his party, hence his departure from the NPP.
“I would have preferred that I would have used the vehicle that I helped to nurture which is my party. I would have hoped that that would have been the vehicle to pursue that development orientation that I believe in. But hey, if it’s not possible why not?
“It is not about trying to change the mindset of other people within my party alone. We’re talking about Ghana, an agenda to change Ghana.
“So if that understanding of my perspective does not dominate the politics in the system that I find myself I don’t see any reason why I cannot take my case directly to the people of Ghana because after all, ultimately, we owe the authority and power to govern to the people and so I’m taking my case directly to the people,” he said.
Alan Kyerematen is now vying for the country’s top job as an independent candidate.
He has blamed the duopoly shared by the NPP and the NDC for the country’s stunted growth.
According to him, when given the chance, he will lead a united political structure where leaders will be selected by merit and not by affiliation as he intends to unite the nation’s body politics.
