If the problem between the NDC, founder and his wife is not resolved, the inevitable would happen; the managing editor of the A Al Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Iddrisu Bature has warned.
Alhaji Bature who described former President Jerry Rawlings as a ‘prophet’ opined that he ( Rawlings) has the tendency of making the ruling party lose the 2012 general elections to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) if care is not taken.
Former President Rawlings took the Mills administration to the cleaners, after just a few months in office, warning that from the way things were going, the NDC was heading for a one-term presidency.
He continued to criticize the Mills-led administration citing its inability to prosecute corrupt ministers in the erstwhile Kufuor administration as an example of gross incompetence on the part of President J.E.A. Mills.
The situation became murkier when Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings decided to contest the flag bearer position of the party which she lost to President Mills.
Mr. Rawlings has vowed not campaign for the NDC in 2012 because the party has reneged on many of its 2008 campaign promises.
But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Alhaji Bature urged members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be bold and tell Mr. Rawlings to the face that his actions are affecting the fortunes of the party.
“Nobody loves Rawlings more than us; NDC should have the guts to tell their founder that his actions would not help the party ” he said.
The Al Hajj editor stated that the avalanche of criticisms by former President Jerry Rawlings on the performance of President Mills gives the NPP ammunition to fire back at the NDC in 2012.
Alhaji Bature explained that Mr. Rawlings by accusing the Mills’ administration of corruption - the very reason why the NPP was voted out of office - makes their campaign for the 2012 elections very difficult.
The NDC sympathizer added that the NPP do not need to go far to find statements to use in campaigning against President Mills because former President Rawlings had given them enough through his 'boom' speeches.
He advised the leadership of the NDC to take steps and reconcile with the former first family for a united party if they are bent on retaining power in 2012.
Alhaji Bature further took a swipe at the government appointees for failing to defend to President Mills when Mr. Rawlings makes disparaging comment about the presidency.
“Nobody in the party can defend the president because of [the] founder? Please you should show your loyalty to the president; he has made you people what you are today.” Bature bemoaned.
He predicted that the NDC would lose next year’s elections should President Mills decide not contest in 2012 if Mr. Rawlings is not called to order.
“If you want to retain power in this country, [it] is only Prof Mills who can do that not Rawlings. If Mills decides not to contest, NDC will lose 2012”.
