A flag bearer hopeful of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) George Opesika Aggudey has said the party Chair, Samia Yaba Nkrumah will not commit any constitutional blunder if she expels Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom from the party.
George Aggudey said Dr. Nduom is not bigger than the party hence should face any sanction if he misconducts himself.
Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom has come under incessant attacks for engaging in what some say 'negative campaign' against the leadership of the party.
Party Chair, Samia Nkrumah at a press conference Tuesday to break her silence on the alleged orchestrated negative media campaign against the party said Dr. Nduom’s conduct is detrimental to the morale of their supporters, sympathizers and well-wishers who are working assiduously to better the electoral fortunes of the party.
Samia Nkrumah hinted of a possible expulsion of Dr. Nduom from the party if he continuous to undermine the authority and agenda of the leadership of CPP.
In an interview with Myjoyonline.com Tuesday, George Aggudey stated emphatically that an early congress is not a panacea for a good performance by the CPP in next year’s election.
He explained that the early congress being advocated by Dr. Nduom is a negative course of action which in the past got the party with him (Nduom) as the presidential candidate only 1.3% in the 2008 general elections.
George Aggudey stated that it is imperative for the CPP to have a formidable force at the grassroots level to improve their performance in the 2008 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The 2004 presidential candidate of the CPP noted that the party under the new leadership is going through a transition of re-organizing and strengthening which is intended to present a credible, formidable and incorruptible presidential candidate for 2012.
He observed that CPP at this crucial time needs a candidate who is appealing to the people not someone who would foment discord within the party.
Nevertheless, George Aggudey dismissed suggestions that he wants to capitalise on Dr. Nduom’s misfortunes to court support from Samia in his bid to lead the party in next year’s elections.
According to him, the party has created a level playing field for all flag-bearer aspirants hence he would not use that as an opportunity to run Dr. Nduom down.
George Aggudey called on all party members to put their differences behind them and help the new leadership to build a great Nkrumaist party.
