Former Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko is calling for the resignation and prosecution of those found to have compromised their positions in country’s football administration.
Herbert Mensah said the recent negative stories about football administration has to large extent damaged the image of Ghana football.
“It does not matter if it is Kwesi Nyantakyi and other associates who are guilty in this matter, the image of the game has been damaged,” he told Joy News' Elton John Brobbey.
His comments follow the arrest of President of Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi for influence peddling using the name of President Akufo-Addo and his Vice.
This was after a private viewing of excerpts of a new documentary titled ‘Number 12’ by the President and some top officials at the Presidency.
The President then reported the case to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) who then arrested Mr Nyantakyi with a charge of defrauding by false pretence.
Mr Nyantakyi who was by then in Morocco turned himself in to the police and was granted bail later.
The country waits with bated breath content of a two-hour video exposing a rot in Ghana football perpetuated by administrators, officials and politicians which is scheduled to air on June 6.
For many, the revelation only confirms the long-held corruption tag on the football association.
Herbert Mensah believes if Wednesday’s viewing does not have anything concrete to tie Mr Nyantakyi to a wrongdoing, then people are only speculating wrongly.
“But if there are statements that are made either one that brings the imagery and optics of the presidency and therefore Ghana down, then that is not acceptable,” he said.
The head of Ghana Rugby Association stated that even if it ends in a case that is not admissible in court, in the court of public opinion, it denigrates the image and name of the country in football circles.
“If on the other hand there are structures within the football association that are also compromised; whether it has to do with officiating or things that fall on the integrity of the game, that is not also acceptable,” he added.
