Dr Julie Sullivan, President of The International Foundation for Education and Self Help (IFESH) has promised that its donors would continue to work to boost the standard of education in the country and Africa at large. She mentioned some of the donors as the World Cocoa Foundation Projects (WCFP), United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Hearshy. Dr Sullivan made these remarks at Bechem in the Brong Ahafo Region on Wednesday when some members of the IFESH from USA and a team from WCFP visited the Saint Joseph Training College to inspect some educational equipment presented to the college by the two bodies some months ago. Dr Sullivan explained that IFESH was established in Ghana to support and complement the implementation of Ghana's educational programmes, by promoting self-help initiatives that encourage individuals and communities to participate actively in their own social transformation. She said in-view of that, IFESH and its donors have collaborated with the Ministry of Education and the Teachers Education Division to organize educational programmes for the teachers. It has placed 114 IFESH volunteers in four universities, 24 Teacher Training Colleges, three secondary schools and three international NGO's and have also established 24 Teacher Resource Centres for some teacher training colleges in the country. Dr Sullivan said IFESH is ever ready to support self-help projects in the country and therefore encouraged Ghanaians to embark on educational self-help projects to improve the standard of education. In his welcome address, Mr. C.D.B. Mensah, St. Joseph Training College Principal, expressed his gratitude to the Board of Governor, students and staff of IFESH for providing the college with computers, photocopiers and a laminating machine to equip the college's resource centre. He promised that the College would use the equipment for the purpose it was intended to improve teaching and learning.Source: GNA
