The Institute of Human Resource Management Practitioners (IHRMP), in pursuing one of its goals of building the capacity of the nation’s human resource, organized a two-day Change Management training.
The training was held on Thursday, April 10 to Friday April 11, 2014.
The two-day workshop on the topic “Change Management- A key to Competitive and Sustainable Business” was aimed at equipping participants with techniques to enhance the effectiveness of Change Initiatives in their individual organizations.
The workshop which was held at the HR Centre in Nyaniba Estates, Accra, drew twenty-five participants who are senior executives, heads of departments and HR professionals from different organizations in the public and private sectors of the country.
The facilitator, who is also the President of IHRMP, Mr. John Wilson, in his opening session revealed that, 70% of change projects fail because change was treated as an event and not a process requiring planning, implementation and monitoring.
He introduced participants to the Change Acceleration Process (CAP) model of managing change which he said was a superior Change Management methodology.
He explained that 'effective change' was a function of both the change project and acceptance from the people it impacts, hence the need to identify all stakeholders, create the shared need and obtain acceptance of the desired change before implementing change.
The two-day workshop was a very practical and interactive session, where participants shared practical change examples from their organizations, after which participants were tasked to design change projects using the CAP tools that they had learnt.
At the end of the two day session participants testified that, as change agents, they were adequately equipped with skills to plan, implement, monitor and sustain change in their various organizations.
