The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has made it clear that he will not tolerate LGBTQ activities in Ghana if elected president, regardless of any potential consequences.
He emphasised that such activities go against the core values of the nation and therefore cannot be allowed to occur.
Highlighting the religious and cultural perspectives, Dr. Bawumia noted that both the Bible and the Quran, as well as the beliefs of the Ghanaian people, reject the practices associated with LGBTQ movements.
According to him, his assertion underscores his firm stance against any attempts to introduce or promote such activities within the country.
During a meeting with religious leaders in Tamale, the Vice President reiterated his unwavering opposition to LGBTQ activities, affirming that his stance on the matter is non-negotiable.
He assured the clergy gathered that he would actively oppose any attempts to normalize or legalize such behaviours if elected to the presidency.
Dr. Bawumia emphasised that under his future presidency, there would be no acceptance or accommodation of LGBTQ activities in Ghana.
He indicated his commitment to upholding traditional values and preserving the moral fabric of Ghanaian society.
“On this matter of LGBTQ, I want to say again without any equivocation that we will not allow it in Ghana. It is not going to be allowed. Our Bible says no, our Quran says no, and our people say no. So no. That is the answer.”
“No man will be marrying a man, no woman will be marrying a woman. It is not our value. And I will stand firm no matter the consequences.
“We will stand firm on that matter no matter the consequences. We will safeguard our country and we will safeguard our people," he said.
