The flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to hit the ground running with a focus on job creation and economic reform if elected as President in the upcoming general elections.

According to him, his government would forgo any honeymoon period but start work immediately upon taking office.

He said this at a media engagement on Sunday, August 25.

When asked what he’d do in the first 100 days in office, he replied, “I will definitely not be on a honeymoon. My government will go straight to work, and for me, my focus is on jobs.”

He further outlined a series of immediate actions, including preparing a budget as quickly as possible to implement key economic policies.

Among his top priorities is the introduction of a tax amnesty and a flat tax regime, both of which he aims to have ready by the time the first budget is read in March.

Additionally, he plans to champion the "Buy Ghana First" policy to be backed by law.

This policy is designed to prioritise local businesses and products, promoting Ghanaian-made goods.

Another significant pledge from Dr Bawumia is the abolition of the E-levy, a move he believes will help facilitate the smooth implementation of his digitalisation agenda.

“The E-levy will be abolished because we have to focus on digitalization of our economy and so we need to take out the E-levy to make the facilitation of digitalization smooth. So these are some of the things I believe we can do very quickly in the first 100 days when we are voted into office,” he pledged.

Dr Bawumia also highlighted plans to review the tariff structure for businesses to create a more favourable environment for economic growth.

“Those things that will get businesses moving in order to create jobs will be looked at to show that we are serious about local businesses and serious about job creation,” he assured.
